Below is a list of frequently asked questions with respect to the Town's Waste Management Diversion Program.
My garbage/recycling did not get collected on my regularly scheduled collection day. What should I do?
- All waste streams are to be set out by 5:00 a.m. on your regulary scheduled collection day.
- Alternatively, your waste streams can be set out after 7:00 p.m. the evening before your regularly scheduled collection day.
- If your waste was set out late (after 5:00 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day) and the collection truck has already collected the waste on your street, you will need to remove your waste from the curb and place it out on your next regularly scheduled collection day. The collection truck will not make a second trip to collect the waste on your street.
- The collection trucks are equipped with GPS technology. We understand human error can occur and distractions happen. If you are certain your items were placed out on time and on the correct collection day, please contact the Town Office at 613-687-5536 during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed statutory holidays), outside of regular business hours you may contact the collection contractor (Miller Waste Systems Inc.) at 613-735-6925.
Is there a certain way to organize my garbage/recycling bins for collection?
- Material must be placed 5 to 6 feet from the curb or roadside (in your driveway - not on snowbank, sidewalk, or multi-use pathway).
- The green cart must have 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 m) clearance around it to allow for proper collection, and with wheels facing away from the road with the lid closed.
- Containers cannot exceed 50 lbs (23 kg), with the exception of the green cart.
Is there a certain size limit/requirement for garbage/recycling bins?
- Garbage cans should not be more than 90 centimetres (36 inches) in height and the diameter should not be more then 60 centimetres (24 inches). Garbage cans should not weigh more than 50 lbs (23 kg) when full.
- Garbage may also be placed in a non-returnable plastic bag (black garbage bag) that does not weigh more than 50 lbs (23 kg) when full.
- If using a rigid reusable collection container, other than the municipally assigned Yellow Bin, it should not exceed a volume of 114 litres (25 gals.) and weigh no more than 50 lbs (23 kg) when full.
- Extra cardboard should be flattened and/or bundled with string/twine, and not exceed 2 ft x 3 ft (0.61 x 0.91 m).
