NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL

Town Of Petawawa Official Plan Update

TAKE NOTICE that the Town of Petawawa invites all interested persons to attend a Special Meeting of Council for the purpose of discussing the revisions that may be required as part of a proposed update to the Town’s Official Plan, pursuant to the requirements of 26(3)(b) of the Planning Act, RSO 1990, c. P. 13 as amended.

An Official Plan provides direction for the growth and development of the community and where land uses (i.e. residential, commercial, industrial, parks) should be located.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT: The Town of Petawawa is undertaking the legislated review of its Official Plan as required by the Planning Act. The Town’s current Official Plan was adopted by Council in 2004 and was last updated in March 2014. The Official Plan Update will refine the goals, objectives, policies and schedules of the Official Plan to ensure that it is consistent with the 2020 Provincial Policy Statement, conforms to the County of Renfrew Official Plan and reflects matters of local interest.

Matters to be addressed include, but are not limited to:

  • Growth management, including a review of population and employment forecasts and land needs;
  • Residential intensification and affordable housing policies;
  • Water source protection policies;
  • Natural heritage policies;
  • Energy conservation and climate change mitigation and adaptation; and
  • Parks and open space, including parkland dedication policies

The Special Meeting of Council will provide an opportunity for the public to speak to revisions that may be required as part of the Town’s Official plan Review. The intent of this meeting is not to review a Draft Official Plan, which will be prepared and made available for review in the following months, but to consider what ought to be reviewed moving forward.

THE SUBJECT LANDS include all lands located within the Town of Petawawa municipal boundary. Accordingly, no key map is provided.

ANY PERSON may attend the Special Meeting of Council and/or make written or verbal representation regarding what revisions may be required as part of a proposed update to the Town’s Official Plan. If you are unable to attend the Special Meeting of Council you may provide written comments by submitting them to the address below:
