Staycation Petawawa Promotion

In our current times, business and tourism have been directed to “pivot” how they have traditionally operated. There is a shift to focus on what is being termed “hyper-local” which places focus on our immediate population and those in neighbouring communities to shop and stay local. With travel limited, people are now looking to rediscover their own communities and appreciate the experiences found within their own backyard.
This stance means seeing your Town, its residents and the numerous surrounding and neighbouring communities as your main tourist clientele and having them see and experience it through a new perspective.  So treating even a local resident as a tourist and setting them up in a local hotel for a night stay, with welcome basket filled with local goodies, being treated to a service they may never have had, explore and adventure throughout the community and of course, savour and sample the local cuisine.


The focus of this campaign is to reach shoppers that live in and around Petawawa and reward them for shopping businesses in Petawawa.  The program also aims to reach out within a 40 km radius; hyper-local, (Pembroke, Laurentian Valley, Chalk River, and Deep River) tourists to draw shoppers to our participating businesses. Creating an incentive to attract shoppers to Shop Petawawa, we hope to create loyal shoppers who will return to Petawawa after experiencing what our community and our businesses have to offer.


• To participate, your business MUST be located in the geographic area of Petawawa. 
• Your business must offer purchasing clients the opportunity to enter the Staycation draw by completing a ballot (ballot box provided). 
• Staff must be aware of how the campaign works and be able to explain details to shoppers. 
• Repeat visitors and purchasing clients are permitted to re-enter the draw for each eligible purchase.  One ballot per purchase. For each purchase made for the entire duration of the campaign.
• At the end of the program period May 14, the Town of Petawawa staff will collect participating businesses ballot boxes to conduct the draw for the winners of two Staycations packages. 


Your business will have the opportunity to participate in one of three ways:

Direct Sponsor

(Maximum 1 sponsor per item line – see package options below)
Your business can provide a service or opportunity that matches with one of the package options found below. This can be an overnight accommodation for hotel managers, a meal for two (2) from a local restaurant 
Return on Investment
• Your business mentioned as a sponsor in radio advertising and associated with the corresponding package promotions.
• Your business will receive a highlight in social media promotions of the campaign.
• Your business will appear on the Shop Petawawa website as a contributor of this initiative.

Welcome Sponsor 

(Maximum 6 businesses per package)
Your business can provide product(s) that will be featured in a “gift basket” presented to the winners of the various packages.
Return on Investment
• Your business card/ brochures will accompany your product in the gift basket.
• The gift basket will be featured in a social media promotions with all participating businesses.
• Your business will appear on the Shop Petawawa website as a contributor of this initiative.

Location Sponsor

Your business location will participate in collecting participant information for in-person and online purchase. You will provide a complete list of winners at the end of campaign to compile all potential winners.  You are the driving force behind this campaign in that purchases and entries are driven from your location.
Return on Investment
• Poster for window display provided to show you’re a participating business.
• Ballot box with poster for counter to collect ballots.
• Your business will appear on the Shop Petawawa website as a contributor of this initiative. 

Businesses who wish to participate can complete the Staycation Petawawa participation form. before April 5, 2021.


This initiative will run from April 12th to May 14th. Participating businesses will encourage shoppers during this period to enter into the Stay-Cation draw with each eligible purchase during this period. At the end of the campaign, all the ballot boxes will be collected and on May 20th two winners will be drawn.  The two winners will have the option to select during which month they wish to use their Stay-Cation package.  First drawn winner will have first choice of their preferred dates.


Please note these selections are all examples of potential packages and can be modified based on participating businesses and their offers.

Welcome - Gift Basket 

Gift baskets will appear at the winner’s accommodation location to kick off their stay local experience. Gift should represent your business and what makes your business unique.  Businesses must provide two (2) identical items for the baskets.


• Packages are for two (2) – spouses/partners, friends, mother/daughter, etc.
• Packages have no cash value and winners cannot trade or exchange for other product or services.
• Winner’s packages have been designed to be used in July and August 2021. 
• Each package is a weekend experience.  Accommodations are for Saturday overnight only activities will be arranged for winner based on month of selection for their Staycation. 
• Additional purchases not included within the package will be at the expense of the participant.
