2010 Municipal Elections  

The next municipal election in the Town of Petawawa will take place on Monday, October 25, 2010.

Nominations:

Nominations opened on Monday, January 4, 2010. Candidates may pick up a nomination form at the Municipal Office on 1111 Victoria Street, Petawawa or by accessing the form online using the link below. Nomination papers may be filed from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm and on September 10, 2010 between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

At the time of filing, each candidate must pay the prescribed nomination fee ($200.00 for the office of Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices) by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order payable to the Town of Petawawa.

Upon filing the nomination paper with the Clerk, the candidate will receive a Candidate's Guide, which includes important information for candidates. Candidates will also receive a Certificate of Maximum Permitted Expenses.

Key Dates:


January 4, 2010 – Nomination and campaign period commences
September 10, 2010 – Nomination Day (9:00 am – 2:00 pm)

October 16, 2010 - Advance Poll (10:00 am - 6:00 pm at the Municipal Office) 

October 25, 2010 – Election Day (10:00 am – 8:00 pm)
December 1, 2010 – Term of office commences
March 25, 2011 – Deadline for filing of financial statements (2:00 pm)

Municipal Offices:

Mayor – one to be elected
Councillors – six to be elected

In order to run for municipal council, a candidate must be:

  • A resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years old;
  • Not legally prohibited from voting; and
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
